  I know sanshdrms….that is exactly what I think…I am not sure why I posted this one. I guess I did it becouse it is real. They sacrificed around 50 pigs and 10 buffaloes that day, They were summonings the protective spirits of their ancestors so that they would move with them to the village they were moving to.

I’m so glad I’m a vegetarian – I don’t believe God wants us to treat His creatures in this way. (very good picture though – perfect timing and interesting to see the onlookers faces)

  Thank you Peter. It makes me feel shocked, appaled. But this is nothing compared to what our western world do with the animals we have in our supermarkets.,,this was a sacrifice, and they ate afterwards those animals.

    Hey no worries its actually a good thing for people to see images like this. I know its a little unsettling for some, myself included, but it highlights an excellent point that you raise about western meat consumption. I think many people buy meat in super markets in nice neat, clean packages, or in restaurants that don’t really give an idea as to what it once was or how it arrived there.
    I saw a very good documentary about a group of teenage kids taken to a slaughter house to watch the process of killing lambs. Apart from one they were all deeply shocked and upset by what they saw.
    Anyway sorry for the essay – I love your blog by the way 🙂

its good u postd……thr are sm ugly truths……bt it is truth….closing our eyes wont change the facts……..so its good…good pic…..as all ur pictures in this also the frst thng i noticed was the eye of the animal…..huhhhhhh…..due to sm so calld customs…..the animals have to make sacrifices…its sad!!!!! 😦

Just because it’s disturbing doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be seen. Perhaps because it IS disturbing, it should be seen, reminding us to be more mindful of our choices! xoxoM

Highly distasteful. Not a picture i would have loved to see ever. Height of brutality on an animal which does nothing but obeys us all the way.

It is a very precise shot. Great work, brother. I am from Nepal, where cattle sacrifices are part of festivities. Often, i had come across photos of the moment right before the sacrifice, or one right after. They had the helpless animal and the butcher. But you even got those eager faces in the back-ground, their heads hung in bewilderment.

It is a disturbing image. And while I am against gratuitous posting of photographs that only serves to brutalise people, I don’t believe that is your intention with this image. Rather, it stimulates introspection, a sense of empathy for the animal and the hope that, while respecting their culture, they may find a more humane way of killing the animal, minimising the undoubted fear and suffering you can see in the eye. Very thought-provoking…
